Mang Demi is short, especially when he stands proudly next to his towering 20 feet sculptures that cast a divine shadow over him. It’s amazing how one individual can possess the ability to create abundance out of scraps, like the miracle of Jesus feeding thousands from seven loaves of bread and fish. The sculptures created during his 24-year tenure at the park would come to represent generations of inherited knowledge from the Philippines and the pioneering efforts of a distinctly Filipino-American carving tradition.
