Demitrio Braceros is the genius gardener behind one of the most interesting and little known parks in San Francisco. Scores of wooden statues grace the small but elegant park that sits below the BART tracks off Alemany.

Cayuga Park in San Francisco is one of the little known but most beautiful and artistic places in the city. It is the creation of Demitrio Braceros a gardener from the Philippines who has shaped the park into the great place it is. In this video by a student from the San Mateo Adult School you will see Demi, his park and many of his carvings.

Cayuga Playground Reopens

The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department proudly celebrated the reopening of Cayuga Playground, which recently underwent a $9.4 million renovation under the 2008 Clean and Safe Neighborhood Parks Bond.  Supervisor John Avalos joined community members, the Cayuga Improvement Association, the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) and the Department of Public Works (DPW) in celebrating the much anticipated reopening of one of the city's most colorful and unique neighborhood parks.

Welcome to Cayuga

A park in San Francisco houses a menagerie of beautiful wooden sculptures carved by one man, Demetrio Braceros. In this short documentary, we hear from volunteers, residents, city officials and Demetrio himself about how inspiring and important this park and it's art are to the community. So much so that even the local government, making improvements in the local mass transit system, are concerned with the preservation of this space and the art that occupies it.
